Chapter 9
Harry, Ron, and Hermione, seeing the writing on the wall, believe that there's a secret chamber in Hogwarts, and get to know a legend that Slytherin have built it in Prof. Binns's class. They find spiders going through a crack on the wall, and see Moaning Myrtle in a girl's bathroom. They suspect Malfoy and plan to change into his friends with Polyjuice Potion to get information from him.
Harry finds an envelope in Filch's room and knows he doesn't use magic well. In the Halloween time, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are welcomed to the deathday party of Nearly Headless Nick and they meet Peeves and Moaning Myrtle. Going back to the school, they hear strange voice and see Mrs. Norris immobilized.
When Oliver Wood and his Quidditch team begin practice, Slytherin team comes into the field insisting they booked there. Malfoy makes Ron so angry with the word 'Mudblood' that he tries to shoot Malfoy with his wand but it backfires. Ron's hurt and taken to Hagrid's house. When they go back to school, Prof. McGonagall gives Ron and Harry detention. Ron polishes trophies with Filch and Harry writes addresses of Lockhart's fans. Harry hears a scaring voice during that but Lockhart doesn't.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione go to greenhouses to attend a class of Prof. Sprout. Gilderoy Lockhart comes to Harry and keeps telling him not to be a snob without understanding the situation Harry had. When Colin Creevey asks Harry to let him take a picture, Draco Malfoy finds them and they begin an argument. Lockhart comes again and tells Colin to take a picture of him and Harry. He gives an exam about his books and lets pixies loose in his class. He can't get the pixies back and tells students to do it.
Harry and the Weasley's arrived at the King's Cross station where Harry and Ron could not get through the barrier at platform while the others successfully took a train for Hogwarts. The two drove Mr. Weasley's flying car to follow the train and crashed on a tree. The tree attacked the car and they got away from there to the school. Snape found and took them to Prof. McGonagall to judge them about flying with a car. Fortunately they were not expelled and saw their friends again.
Dobby, a house elf, warned and forced Harry not to go back to Hogwarts, making Dursleys angry, and letting them know that Harry can't use magic outside the school. As a result, Harry was locked in his room.
