MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a communication protocol that lets you synchronize electronic musical instruments connected with cables. It is the de facto standard for desktop music.
Want to drive a MIDI sound source like Roland SC-88Pro? (SC is short for Sound Canvas .) Unfortunately the traditional MIDI unit MPU-401 is already obsolete. Today Roland is promoting several kinds of USB-MIDI interfaces.
However, you can always utilize the game ( joystick /MIDI ) port that comes with your main board, or purchase a secondhand Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 (not 24-bit) and connect a MIDI cable for the game port.
